Amber Fort, also known as Amer Fort or Amer Palace, usually remains open throughout the week. However, its opening status on Holi can change depending on notifications issued by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Rajasthan Tourism or the local administration.

Therefore, travellers should not assume that Amber Fort will remain open on every Holi. Confirm the same-day status through an official source before travelling from central Jaipur.

Amber Fort Timings on Holi

When no special closure or reduced schedule has been announced, the fort generally follows its usual daytime timings:

  • Opening time: 8:00 AM
  • Closing time: 5:30 PM
  • Recommended duration: Two to three hours
  • Best time to arrive: Early morning

Ticket counters may close before the monument’s final closing time. The light and sound show, night tourism, elephant rides and access to specific sections may follow separate schedules or remain suspended.

Amber Fort Entry Fee

The revised ticket prices introduced in Rajasthan from 1 January 2026 reportedly include:

  • Indian visitors: Rs.200 per person
  • Foreign visitors: Rs.1,000 per person

Students and other eligible categories may receive separate concessions. Visitors should verify the latest price at the official ticket counter because fees and policies may change.

What to See Inside Amber Fort

Amber Fort is located on a hill overlooking Maota Lake and is approximately 11 kilometres from central Jaipur. Its architecture combines Rajput design traditions with Mughal influences.

Major attractions within the palace complex include:

  • Jaleb Chowk
  • Ganesh Pol
  • Diwan-e-Aam
  • Sheesh Mahal
  • Sukh Niwas
  • Man Singh Palace
  • Zenana quarters
  • Palace gardens and courtyards

A restored portion of the underground passage connecting Amber Fort with Jaigarh Fort may also be accessible, subject to official restrictions.

Travelling to Amber Fort on Holi

Local buses, taxis, auto-rickshaws and app-based cab services may operate less frequently on Holi. Some drivers may avoid areas where large public celebrations are taking place.

Book transport in advance and confirm the return journey before entering the fort. Traffic diversions may also be introduced around Amer Road and other popular locations.

Many markets, restaurants and smaller businesses in Jaipur remain closed or operate reduced hours during Holi. Carry drinking water and any necessary essentials.

Holi Travel Tips

Wear comfortable footwear and clothes that you do not mind getting stained. Protect your phone, camera and documents in waterproof covers.

Avoid carrying large bags and do not apply colour to other visitors without their consent. Families and international tourists may find organised Holi events safer than unplanned street celebrations.
