Jahan-e-Khusrau is an internationally recognised Sufi music festival that brings together spirituality, poetry, music and artistic expression. Conceptualised by renowned filmmaker and artist Muzaffar Ali, the festival celebrates the teachings of Sufi saints and the timeless legacy of the legendary poet Amir Khusrau.
Over the years, Jahan-e-Khusrau has travelled to different cities and created unforgettable evenings filled with soulful performances. Jaipur has also hosted memorable editions of this prestigious festival, allowing music lovers to experience Sufi traditions amid Rajasthan’s magnificent cultural surroundings.
Jahan-e-Khusrau is more than a conventional music festival. It is a spiritual and cultural experience where artists interpret the works of famous Sufi poets through qawwali, classical music, folk melodies, dance and contemporary compositions.
The festival was established by the Rumi Foundation and has featured renowned musicians and performers from India and abroad. Its programme highlights values such as love, harmony, devotion and unity—ideas that remain at the heart of Sufi philosophy.
Jaipur’s historical monuments and royal atmosphere provide an ideal setting for a festival devoted to music and spirituality. Earlier editions were organised at Central Park, while the 2022 edition was held at the iconic Albert Hall Museum on 19 and 20 November.
The 2022 programme featured celebrated performers such as Javed Ali and the Nooran Sisters. It also included Moomal – Rooh-e-Registaan, a musical ballet composed and directed by Muzaffar Ali. The event was organised by the Rumi Foundation in association with Rajasthan Tourism.
Against the illuminated façade of Albert Hall Museum, the performances created a mesmerising combination of heritage architecture, traditional poetry and soulful melodies.
The festival derives its name from Amir Khusrau, the celebrated 13th-century poet, musician and disciple of Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. His poetry expressed divine love and cultural harmony, while his contribution to Indian music continues to inspire generations of artists.
Through traditional compositions and modern interpretations, Jahan-e-Khusrau introduces his artistic legacy to contemporary audiences.
Attending Jahan-e-Khusrau in Jaipur offers visitors an opportunity to explore Rajasthan beyond forts and palaces. The combination of live Sufi music, graceful performances and a heritage venue makes it a remarkable cultural experience.
