The Jaipur Literature Festival returns for its landmark 20th edition from 14 to 18 January 2027 at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. Often described as the greatest literary show on Earth, JLF packs five days with author talks, fiery debates, poetry readings, book launches and live music. JLF began in 2006 as a modest gathering of writers at Diggi Palace, curated by author Namita Gokhale and historian William Dalrymple. Nobody imagined then that it would grow into the world's largest free literature festival, drawing lakhs of visitors from dozens of countries every January.
The festival has hosted Nobel laureates, Booker and Pulitzer Prize winners, Sahitya Akademi awardees, historians, economists, filmmakers and debut authors on the same lawns. That mix is exactly what makes JLF special. You might attend a session by a global literary icon in the morning and discover a first-time regional-language writer by afternoon.
The 2027 edition will be held over five days, from Thursday, 14 January to Monday, 18 January 2027. The venue remains Hotel Clarks Amer on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, which took over from Diggi Palace a few years ago to handle the festival's growing crowds.
The venue suits the festival beautifully. Open lawns, multiple stages and easy movement between sessions mean you can hop from a panel discussion to a poetry reading in minutes. Sessions typically start around 9 am and continue through the evening, with ticketed music performances on select nights.
Every day of the festival runs several sessions in parallel, so there is always something happening. Here is what fills the programme:
Beyond the sessions, the venue itself is a carnival. Book stalls, art installations, food courts and merchandise zones keep you busy between talks. One underrated joy of JLF is how accessible the speakers are; it is common to bump into a celebrated author near the tea stall.
JLF follows a simple registration system. In recent editions, general registration cost around Rs.200 for all five days, while students could register for about Rs.100. Media registration is free for accredited journalists, and premium packages such as the Friends of the Festival pass offer priority seating, delegate lounges and exclusive events at a higher price.
Final fees for 2027 will be confirmed on the official website, jaipurliteraturefestival.org, so register online in advance. On-spot registration is usually available too, but pre-booking saves you long queues at the gate.
