The Nagaur Fair, also known as the Nagaur Cattle Fair or Shri Ramdeoji Cattle Fair, is one of Rajasthan’s most colourful annual events. Held in Nagaur between January and February, the fair brings together livestock traders, farmers, artisans, performers and travellers from different parts of India.
Nagaur is located between Jodhpur and Bikaner. During the fair, this historic town transforms into a lively centre of rural trade and traditional entertainment. Thousands of beautifully decorated bullocks, camels, horses, sheep and other animals are brought here for buying and selling. Livestock owners often wear colourful turbans and traditional Rajasthani clothes, adding to the fair’s vibrant atmosphere.
The livestock market is the main attraction of the Nagaur Fair. Visitors can observe traders inspecting animals, negotiating prices and completing deals using practices passed down through generations. The event provides an authentic insight into Rajasthan’s agricultural economy and the everyday lives of its rural communities.
The fair also hosts camel races, horse races, tug-of-war competitions and other traditional games. Folk music and dance performances further introduce visitors to Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage.
Beyond livestock trading, the Nagaur Fair is famous for its bustling Mirchi Bazaar, or red chilli market. Traders display different varieties of chillies, spices and agricultural products. The colourful piles of spices and their distinct aromas create a memorable experience for visitors.
People can also shop for wooden objects, leather accessories, traditional jewellery, textiles and locally made handicrafts. Food stalls serving popular Rajasthani snacks and sweets add another flavour to the celebration.
