Bundi Utsav, also known as the Bundi Festival or Bundi Mahotsav, is an annual cultural celebration held in the historic town of Bundi in Rajasthan. Organised by the Rajasthan Tourism Department and local administration, the festival showcases the region’s folk traditions, architecture, handicrafts, cuisine and rural lifestyle.
The festival is generally organised for three days during the cooler months, often around October or November. However, its dates and programme may change each year. Travellers should verify the official schedule before booking their journey.
Bundi Utsav traditionally begins with Ganesh Puja, flag hoisting and a ceremonial welcome. A colourful Shobha Yatra then passes through the streets of Bundi.
The procession features folk performers, traditionally dressed residents, musicians and decorated animals. The old buildings, narrow lanes and blue-painted houses of Bundi create an atmospheric background for the celebration.
Rajasthani folk music and dance are important parts of Bundi Utsav. Artists from different areas perform traditional songs, classical music, regional dances and theatrical presentations.
The festival programme may also include turban-tying, moustache, tug-of-war and matka race competitions. Horse races, camel races, Panihari races and other rural sporting activities have been organised during previous editions. These events encourage both tourists and local residents to participate in the celebrations.

Arts and crafts fairs give travellers an opportunity to meet local artisans and purchase handmade products. Popular items include miniature paintings, textiles, pottery, jewellery, wooden objects and traditional decorative pieces.
Food stalls introduce visitors to the flavours of Rajasthan’s Hadoti region. Local dishes, sweets and snacks add to the festival experience while supporting small vendors and regional producers.
One of the most beautiful ceremonies associated with Bundi Utsav is Deepdaan. During this ritual, people light earthen lamps and place them on the water. The illuminated lamps create a peaceful and memorable sight.
Deepdaan and cultural programmes have been organised at locations including Nawal Sagar and river ghats in the wider Bundi district. Visitors should behave respectfully and avoid disturbing worshippers during religious activities.
A visit to the festival can be combined with Taragarh Fort, Garh Palace, Raniji ki Baori, Chaurasi Khambon Ki Chhatri, Sukh Mahal and Nawal Sagar Lake. Bundi is particularly famous for its stepwells, murals and historic architecture.
Bundi has road and rail connections with Kota, Jaipur and other cities in Rajasthan. Kota is the nearest major transport hub and is approximately 40 kilometres away.
